Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 green onion chopped; or sweet onion
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt additional to taste
- ½ teaspoon pepper additional to taste
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese
- 1 12 ounce can tomato paste
- 2 15 ounce cans diced fire roasted tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- ⅛ tsp red pepper flakes optional
- parsley for garnish, optional
- 1 package spaghetti
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook spaghetti noodles per the package instructions.1 package spaghetti
- In a large sauce pan, heat olive oil on medium heat. Add in garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add in onion and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 green onion, 3 cloves garlic
- Add in the sausage and continue to cook over medium-high heat. Use a spoon to break up the meat into small pieces. Blend with the onion and garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until the meat is browned and no pink remains. Drain off the grease.1 pound Italian sausage
- Reduce heat to medium; add in the sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and pepper flakes. Add in the tomato paste and stir to combine.1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, 1 12 ounce can tomato paste, ⅛ tsp red pepper flakes
- Pour in the diced tomatoes with their liquid and beef broth. Stir until all ingredients are combined. Add in the parmesan.2 15 ounce cans diced fire roasted tomatoes, 1 cup beef broth, ¼ cup parmesan cheese
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours.
- Garnish the spaghetti and meat sauce with parsley and parmesan cheese. Serve and enjoy!parsley
